Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) — Complete Guide for Gulf Employment

📅 April 10, 2026 ⏱ 6 min read ✍️ Attestation Expert Team

A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is increasingly being requested by Gulf employers and immigration authorities as part of the visa and residency process. If your employer in UAE, Qatar, or Kuwait has asked for a PCC, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

What is a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)?

A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is an official document issued by the Indian government — either through the Passport Seva Kendra or local police authorities — confirming that you have no criminal record in India. It is essentially a background check certificate required by foreign governments before granting long-term visas or residency permits.

Who Needs PCC for Gulf Countries?

  • ✅ Anyone applying for long-term employment visa in UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, or Bahrain
  • ✅ Professionals applying for residency or permanent residence
  • ✅ Healthcare workers (nurses, doctors, pharmacists) applying through DHA/HAAD/PROMETRIC
  • ✅ Anyone whose Gulf employer specifically requests a PCC

Two Ways to Get PCC in India

1
Through Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) — Recommended
Apply online at passportindia.gov.in → select PCC → book appointment at your nearest PSK or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). This is faster and more reliable. The PCC is issued within 7–10 working days after verification.
2
Through Local Police Station
Visit your local police station with required documents. The station conducts an address verification and issues the PCC. This route can take longer (10–20 days) depending on your district.

Documents Required for PCC Application

  • ✅ Original passport + photocopy (first and last page)
  • ✅ Address proof (Aadhaar, electricity bill, etc.)
  • ✅ Visa copy or employment offer letter (to show reason for PCC)
  • ✅ Completed application form (online for PSK route)
  • ✅ Passport-size photographs

Does PCC Need Attestation for Gulf Countries?

Yes. Once your PCC is issued, it must be attested by the MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) before it is accepted by Gulf countries. Some countries also require embassy attestation of the PCC. Attestation Expert handles MEA and embassy attestation of your PCC as part of our service — you do not need to make multiple trips to government offices.

PCC Attestation Process

1
Obtain PCC
Get your PCC from PSK or local police station.
2
MEA Attestation
Submit to MEA for attestation stamp — takes 3–5 working days.
3
Embassy Attestation (if required)
UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, or Saudi embassy attestation — takes 3–5 working days.

How Long is PCC Valid?

A PCC is typically valid for 6 months from the date of issue. Plan your PCC application accordingly — apply for PCC only after your visa process is confirmed, so it does not expire before submission. If your visa process is delayed, you may need to apply for a fresh PCC.
